Online, Telepsychiatry Practice
Seeta Patel, MD
As a Harvard-trained psychiatrist based in Washington DC, I provide evidence-based medication management for adults (18 years and older). I also incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness interventions into sessions. Through my upbringing in rural Kentucky and travels to India, I came to realize the worldwide need for accessible mental health care. I developed a passion for helping to improve healthcare delivery systems to underserved areas through telepsychiatry. This interest led me to complete a fellowship in Integrated Care at the University of Washington, in which I worked on improving mental health services in a rural area of Washington via collaboration with primary care. I have clinical experience in serving clients through telepsychiatry for the past 3 years.
I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma related concerns. I work with clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds and have seen how trauma can cause lifelong suffering. But it does not have to. We often do not reach out until aspects of our life have already been affected in a negative way - for instance, when our relationships have fallen apart, or when we have lost a job. In many South Asian cultures in particular, feelings and emotions are not routinely discussed. Now is the time to make a change in the way we communicate. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather it is a sign of strength. In the native language of my familial heritage, Gujarati, the word varta means story. I aim to provide a warm, welcoming environment to understand your unique story and look forward to developing a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual treatment needs.
